My son is turning three and I was concerned that this book would be too mature for him. Specifically, I was worried about the portrayals of violence and have opted in the past to stick with the character intro books that Little Golden Books makes. I took a chance with this one and was pleasantly surprised. I thought there was going to be a big battle at the end, but it turns out that it was a playful snowball fight! Ironically, my 3 yo was confused why the "bad guys" were laughing and playing with the "good guys". Either way, this was a good pick and a new favorite book in our house.

A light hearted story about a snowball fight with the Frost Giants. As I have commented in other reviews, this one actually has a story as opposed to just a character overview like some of the other Marvel Golden Books.

My son is the only male in out household, so sometimes I don't feel like we do enough male things. I was excited to see some Marvel books for his age that wasn't comic books or something geared to a more advanced reader. He loves this story! He always seeks this book for story time. I like it when it seems like they're serious but they just all laugh at the end. Its a cute story with a nice friendly ending.

This book is well illustrated, fun, and my two year old loves it!

Cute but not the most interesting read, even for a 4 yr old who loves superheroes.

Without it, these events would be no more than a stpry I tell my friend about the beautiful animal I saw today. This is my second copy of Ted Andrews' extensive volume. He clearly did his research on what other cultures consider the symbolism of the particular animal.If you are waffling with your decision whether or not to buy this book, my vote is that you purchase it. If you are a spiritual being, this information is invaluable. If you really hadn't considered the meaning of that bear that walked past your yard the other day, here's your intro to the amazing and fascinating compendium of the unseen world manifest in the animals in your life.This is the best book of animal symbolism I've read, and I have read a lot of them.

If animal medicine is something you desire to know more about, or you simply desire to connect with nature on a deeper level, this book might be the most comprehensive and enlightening piece of work I have found on this topic. Amazing book and so detailed. I have really learned a lot about animal medicine and totems in this book. I refer back to it almost daily as I learn the totems in my life and refer back to them. I've read the book in chapters based on what was most pertinent to me. I'm still surprised by how much information is in this book and how incredibly useful it is. Thank you, Ted Andrews!

'All living things are connected' is something I say often. Ted Andrews book is both entertaining and useful. American Indians have an understanding and connection to living creatures that people like me, living in a large city, do not totally understand. First and formost, I am a believer in God. God the creator, created you and me and all living things. There is a connection. Learning to observe that connection takes time and patience. Reading Ted Andrews' book has helped me both make that connection and to understand there is more to life and living than meets the untrained eye. Read the book for enjoyment and you will grow in deeper areas. Who knows, you may learn to 'Animal Speak'.

So far, I can't see the level of detail that I was expecting and hoping for in this book. It has a lot of detail on the facts of the animals, that are rather superfluous and unrelated in my opinion, to the details of the spirit animals. By ratio of the information, say if two pages are written on an animal, 1.5 of them will be on facts and the last paragraph will be on the symbolism, wisdom and spirit animal. That's a lot of extra paper and bulk that's unnecessary. I would return it and get the Medicine Cards or something else.

I still have much to read in this book, but it is fascinating how it connects animal totems with their person. The descriptions of what they mean, and the examples Ted gives of how you can identify a totem, really connects you with not only your totem, but your spirituality as well. I find myself reaching for this book, every time I have a significant encounter or dreamlike visitation with an animal. It's crazy how it's connected to you! My book arrived on time, and in fantastic shape.

It's always interesting to look at a title such as "Animal Speak" and wonder what it's about. When I started understanding it's purpose it all made sense. Every animal, bird, insect gives us a connection to them in a silent but large way. Their personality or actions tell us something about ourselves. I recently saw a large caterpillar and wondered why it showed up in my life. When I looked it up, I realized why. I thought about the process a caterpillar goes through to make the metamorphic change and knew that was going on in my life in a human way. These creatures are here to remind us we're not alone and to pay attention to the things in life we most likely ignore. It's like a little road map. It's a positive. The book explains in detail a lot of information you would normally not know about. It'll be in my library for a long time.

Ted is my favorite author (and I have several!) when it comes to explaining totems and visitors that enter our lives and what they mean. It's my go-to book to find out the meaning of different interactions and appearances. He writes clearly, concisely and it's always interesting. This is my most-used book in my extensive Ted Andrews library. Highly recommended!

Love them kid's books with messages and this one has multiple messages going on at the same time. This book is encouraging to children who need practice with their handwriting, but that wasn't really what impressed me. What I found amazing about this book is the broad array of positive messages it delivers to the younger audience.This book tells kids that it is okay not to be the very best at something. It helps them understand that with practice anything can be achieved, and that they do not have to be ashamed when they aren't great at something in the very beginning. So many of the kids books I have read tend to focus on one subject the child is trying to master and then they do, do it perfectly even, and then the book is over. This book allowed some wiggle room. The main character did not have to excel at handwriting in order for someone to point out how wonderful she was.I also loved that her whole goal throughout the book was to improve her work so she could spend time with the class pet. What a great reward! I absolutely recommend this wonderful book for any child, especially those that could use a little self-esteem booster.

Carolyn is an excited young second grader. She is learning to write in cursive. Like many kids she is really struggling to make her writing look right. If she finishes early she can play with the hamster or on the computer. Unfortunately it takes her forever to complete her handwriting and it is not good. The teacher hangs their papers on the board to show how much they have improved. Carolyn is sad her writing has improved but is still not very good. Her teacher notices this and explains to her how proud she is for all of her hard work. She knows that people learn at different rates and are great at different things. She points some of those things out to her.What made this so great is that the teacher didn't get made because she couldn't do something to "Her" standards. She praised Carolyn for the progress she made, for where she was. This is what all good teachers should do.

Thus was so great for my child with dysgraphia to read! It was a bit childish fir his reading level, but that didn't seem to bother him. We read it together the first time. He got it! And then read it over and over again! And he felt good about himself because he related! I highly recommend ALL of the books in this series for ANY child who has ANY type of learning disability, ADHD, or just struggles to do well. They will see that not alone, and can still do great things.

Excellent story of a student struggling but never giving up. She learns that we all have things we are good and not so good at, but we must keep on trying. Life has its rewards, in time. Loved the ideas, the realism, the hope, the lesson in this book.

It's wonderful to have books that shows other kids struggling through problems and how they work it out. Is one of my son's bedtime stories that he likes to read over and over.

This is just like when I was in second grade two years ago. We had to learn it at the end of the year. This was a book that pretty much sums up to say that if you work hard and don't succeed,there will be a reward and some hope. And that's all I can say about that.

Don't recommend . Did not help my son just said it made him feel bad.

I gave it a 5 star rating.I love this book ! I also love guinea pigs like the girl in the story .I would recommend this book to my best friend!
