Wow! This has beautiful illustrations, includes Swedish words and dishes, recipes in the back... it was a perfect addition to our Holidays Around the World unit. When we "visited" Sweden, we read this book to help learn more about how and why they celebrate St. Lucia Day.

I grew up in a Scandinavian household that observed Santa Lucia on Dec.13th. I now have a granddaughter named Lucy and gave her this book on the day she was baptized so that someday she, too, will know who she was named for and the Santa Lucia tradition. I gave her "Lucia, Saint of Light" as well. Between the two books the music with the lyrics and the recipe for the pastries are in the books. Can't wait for her to be old enough to share my memories and bake with her!

My kids love this book. I bought it so that we could have some examples of how to celebrate Santa Lucia day in our home. There are a couple recipes and some patterns in the back on making your own Lucia or Star boy gown. I don't think I will be using the patterns as I have some for the Lucia gown that I think will work better for us, but we may try the recipes. My middle daughter is very excited to be Lucia this year!(We are a family of non christians who celebrates christmas as a family - not religious - holiday, celebrates the seasons, and tries to incorporate some waldorf practices at home)

I am Swedish and grew up with the Lucia program at our Swedish Lutheran church which my children participated in. This book has pictures of the costumes my children wore! I grew up with the Lucia Legend having relatives still in Sweden also participating in it. Now my grandchildren will have a book to treasure.

I bought this book to explain St Lucia Day to my children as we live in the USA and this will be their first year celebrating the holiday. It does a good job explaining who she is at an age appropriate level as well as a cute little story about a swedish family. The best part though is the included recipes for the pepparkakor and the lussekatter (in cups!) as well as the english version of Santa Lucia AND a pattern instructions for the lucia gowns, star boy gown and the collar. Such a great little book for those without much knowledge or history of celebrating St Lucia.

Delightful story with contemporary feel of how Traditions can continue today. I heard of the Santa Lucia Coffee Mornings from my Grandmother. I had also read about them in her diary from her trip back home to Sweden in the late 40's. Nice to remember our heritages ----this book's illustrations were delightful---I now know I have truly Swedish hair. There are also patterns for Swedish Santa Lucia costumes and cookie recipes. If you have children and you share this book with them, be prepared for them to want to try these traditions. Be prepared to enjoy and make new memories --- the young and the old will be delighted. Even a non-morning person could like this---what's not to like about singing and candles and coffee and cookies---and those you love involved in it***.

I really wanted to like this book, because my family celebrates the Feast of St. Lucy and the only other St. Lucy Day book available on Amazon gets mixed reviews. This one is cheerful and hits all the main points but it lacks a plot and is written almost entirely in awkward dialogue. I like that it includes two recipes and the lyrics of the song in the back, but it's not becoming a classic anytime soon and I'm probably going to return it.

Teaching kindergartem and doing an xmas around the world unit I am, alqays looking for books to share with the kids. This book hit all the marks. Written to be easily unserstood by small children..explained the tradition so they understood it. Nice book to add to my collection
