This book is better than a Chilton manual or your owners manual but not the equivelant of the older "Motors manuals". It is not anywhere near a shop manual. I had a problem with my ETM and it tells me what it is, but not whhere to locate it, how to remove it or how to clean it, and those functions are relative easy once y0ou look on the internet. This manual is lacking a lot and I would never buy another for a car. I would spring the the manfg. Shop Manual and if they wouldn't sell me one I wouldn't but that car. Like so many, I'm tired with being ripped off by dealer garages when I can do it my self if I have the same manual.
If you're in the United States, just be aware that it's written in British-English. It is not a problem, but I do have to reread parts of it occasionally and remember what "fitment" means. Other than that, it's a typical Haynes manual, very good written descriptions of how to do most everything any backyard mechanic would consider attempting, but washed-out black & white photos that are only marginally helpful. Overall, it is better to have it handy as a reference than not...
The very first time i have ever been disappointed with a Haynes manual.They just tried to cram too many models into this edition and it suffers incomplete information for many procedures. Perhaps the English don't work on their cars as much as the Americans do, though. There just isn't as much information as i would have like to see in this book.i'll be looking for a factory manual.
My son recently bought a 99 Volvo S70 sedan. I immediately searched for a factory manual but the best price I could find was $300. Ouch.Although Hayne's manuals tend to be overly generic (especially between the model years covered by a single volume), it's a handy reference and helps to reduce head scratching when trying to take apart your car for the first time.
Excellent pictures & write up for general reference. Some info only available in this book or dealers books. This reference gives enough reference info to locate & complete most simple repairs and additional info on some complicated repairs. A couple different manuals like this are required to get a good idea of what is required to remove & replace some parts and do some troubleshooting.

This book contains all the illustrations and step-by-step instructions needed for the home mechanic to replace and inspect parts of his (or her) vehicle. This was the only Hanes Manual I could find on Amazon for my Vehicle. My only complaint is the book was intended for the UK market and explains how to refit parts under the Bonnet of the vehicle instead of how to install them under the hood!
I've owned a '98' V70 for over six years now and I do all the work myself. I bought this book recently to see if it was any good. I was hoping it would fill in a few gaps that the other books left. After using it for several months now I can say that this is THE book to have for your early 98-99 V70. No other DIY book that I have compares. It's layed out really well. The pictures are excellent. The text is superb. Get it!
